How to Add Personality to Your Home

Does your home reflect who you are? Does the art on the wall, the furniture around the room, and small trinkets on the coffee table represent your life and what you care about?

Many people end up following the same typical home decor trends that don’t express their personality. Diverging from the predictable may be scary at first, but a few simple design tricks can help you bring life to your living space.

So, where should you start? Our founder Clarissa Butler recently discussed some of her design expertise with Christina Harmon from the Harmon Agency.

how to make your home feel personal

  1. Collect things from your travels. Special memorabilia around your home will remind you of moments from the times you and your loved ones have spent together. Including these types of art/decor is a unique way to bring personality into your home.

  2. Hang up family heirlooms. If you have a special piece from your grandmother like a necklace or plate, you can hang it on your wall. Beautiful, meaningful, unique pieces don’t do any good in a sealed box!

  3. Think outside the box and use things you already have. For example, try taking something like your children’s artwork and blow it up on the wall. You could put their art on a Canvas or make a gallery wall of their pieces in black and white.

Having a unique and well-decorated home doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or require a background in design. Check out the video interview above to hear Clarissa address more questions about how to bring life to your home design.
