Designed for Today, Inspired by Yesterday: CB’s Feature in Atomic Ranch Design 2021 ISSUE

“I just think that there are so many amazing houses that have potential. We felt like rather than scrap a perfectly good house, we could rebuild it.”

These are the words of Deidre Campbell in reference to the mid-century modern home that she helped transform last spring. We were lucky enough to jump in on the interior styling and staging process, finessing the space prior to selling.

In their article, “Designed by Today, Inspired by Yesterday,” Atomic Ranch Design Magazine tells the story of this Newport Beach home and its “face lift” process. Architect Michael Porter and Reuter Homes completed the remodel, Deidre chose all of the finishes and details, and Clarissa Butler of CB Creative Agency added all of the final styling touches.

Here are some of the highlights that the article touches on:

First is the living room: this stunning teal Turkish-inspired rocker by local designer House of Morrison is a piece of artwork in of itself, the photograph by Felicidad De Lucas is stunningly vibrant, and the handwoven Tibetan rug by Soho Design ties the whole room together.

“It’s got all the mid-century finishes and nods, but we also added in some high-end pieces, some eclectic art pieces, and it was just kind of a hybrid,” Butler said.

The entry is a favorite of both Deidre and Clarissa. The massive circular mirror and wooden bench, both from House of Morrison, as well as the yellow front door, create a stunning visual.

Next is the office studio: while this space could double as a third bedroom, Clarissa chose to stage it as a studio office space. She wanted the light-filled room to be a little more youthful than other spaces in the home.

“I love the eclectic mix of pulling a very traditional mid-century modern desk and then grabbing a street art piece or something that juxtaposes with that.”

The final highlight is the dining room: the West Elm dining table, mid-century chairs, and framed ceramic tile art piece by Danielle Brewer work together to create a stunning nod to mid-century design.

Overall, this remodel and design process was a complete success. Our dream home. :)
